  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C)
  2. Cream butter. Gradually add sugar, creaming well
  3. Blend in egg, vanilla, and flavoring
  4. Sift together 3 cups flour and 1 tablespoon nutmeg
  5. Add flour and nutmeg, mix well
  6. Shape pieces of dough on lightly floured surface into long rolls, 1/2 inch in diameter. Cut in 3-inch lengths
  7. Place on ungreased baking sheets
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes. Cool completely, then frost
Frosting
  1. Cream butter, vanilla, and flavoring
  2. Add 1/2 cup icing sugar , beating well
  3. Add 1 cup icing sugar, 1 tbsp milk. Mix well
  4. Add 1 cup icing sugar, 1 tbsp milk
  5. Beat well until icing is spreading consistency. Add 1 tbsp more milk if needed
